Stuck in Our Heads - Vol. 30 - November 2009

This month, The Playlist lost a contributor, and I lost a friend.

Sara and I met only once. It was back in the mid-90s when we were both visiting our respective older siblings at Georgia Tech for the weekend. Well over a decade later, this project brought us back in touch.

My friendship with Sara consisted primarily of brief e-mail exchanges every couple of months and the very occasional exchange of small gifts via US Mail. I recently re-read our correspondence of the past few years, and our shameless attempts to one-up each other's wordplay made me laugh out loud a few times. There can be no doubt, however, that Sara outdid me in gifting when she sent me the hand-knit, monogrammed koozie that is the envy of all who have seen it since its debut on New Year's Eve 2007.

It makes me happy Sara's battle with cancer has finally ended, and it makes me very sad she is gone.
