Stuck in Our Heads - Vol. 5 - August 2007

What a difference a day (or two) makes, huh? I don't know how keen I am about my "first Monday of the month" policy when the first day of the month happens almost a week before the first Monday. So, here we are nearly halfway through the month before the August playlist hits the streets. And, not a moment too soon, I might add.

I don't know if I've spelled out in the past to what exact use I put this list. For about two weeks or so after I compile the month's list, that's pretty much all I listen to (at the office, on the drive to/from work, wherever else I'm pumping the jamz). After about a week, I consider the new material to be properly assimilated, and I move it over in to the cumulative Stuck in Our Heads playlist. Typically, I'll listen to that for a week or so, but I eventually get back to my initial business of exploring the music I already have (some familiar, some not). So, for about half of the month, I just hit shuffle and take whatever comes up.

(Notable exception: I've been spending some quality time with podcasted episodes of This American Life from NPR. I had forgotten how much I dig that show when it's at its best. Ask me about the night before Thanksgiving I almost wound up spending ( i.e., dying) in a snowbank near Crater Lake because I got so entranced by a story on This American Life that I forgot to pay attention to the signs that said "Roads Not Maintained in Winter. Snow Chains Required Beyond This Point. Vehicle Traffic Discouraged.")

So, I've been in the shuffle mode lately, and I spent one morning commute last week being thrown back and forth (true story) between selections from Tori Amos and Metallica. I rock hard, and I cry hard. When I have to keep switching back and forth every four or five minutes, it takes its toll.
